April 15, 2025.- The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) has officially released the results of the 2025 Global Disc Sports Community Survey, capturing the voices of athletes, coaches, organizers, and fans from over 80 countries. The full report is now available to the public and can be accessed through WFDF’s official website.
With nearly 1,300 participants, the survey offers a detailed snapshot of the international flying disc community. The insights gathered have been instrumental in guiding WFDF’s strategic direction and aligning its initiatives with the needs and priorities of its diverse global base.
“We are sincerely grateful to everyone who took the time to participate in this year’s survey,” said WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “Your feedback is essential in helping us understand the evolving expectations of our community. These insights directly shape our strategic priorities and enable us to make better-informed decisions.”
Key findings
- 69% of respondents identified as male-matching, 27% as female-matching, and 4% as diverse or no response.
- 41% of participants were 29 years old or younger, and an additional 30% were in the 30–39 age range.
- 51% have been involved in disc sports for 10 years or more.
- 91% reported playing grass Ultimate, 56% disc golf, and between 12–21% participated in other disc disciplines such as Freestyle, Guts, and Overall.
When it comes to competition levels, 32% had competed in World Championships and 24% in national-level events. An impressive 72% of respondents hold a university degree.
By region, Europe contributed 49% of responses, followed by the Americas with 34%. The five countries with the most participants were the USA (18%), France (10%), Germany (8%), Italy (7%), and Canada (5%).
Community priorities
- Youth development emerged as the top priority, with 35% ranking it first and 75% including it in their top three concerns.
- Satisfaction levels: 55% said they were somewhat or fully satisfied with WFDF’s overall performance, while 61% expressed similar satisfaction with their respective national federations.
- Olympic inclusion: 56% believe participation in the Olympic Games should be a top or high priority for WFDF.
- Media engagement: 65% regularly watch disc sports coverage, with 30% willing to pay for content and 35% preferring free access.
- Identity and values: 89% agreed that flying disc sports are part of their identity, and 80% felt a strong connection to the “Spirit of the Game.”
The results of the survey were a central topic of discussion during WFDF’s face-to-face Board Meeting held in Frankfurt at the end of March. The data informed key initiatives, including the expansion of youth programs, the promotion of gender equity, and preparations for future WFDF and Olympic Movement events.
WFDF reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and community engagement. The organization will continue to rely on community input to shape programs and policies that reflect the collective vision and values of the global disc sports family.
