Virtual Disc Golf Returns: The 2025 VSWTDGC Is Underway

Staff

May 17, 2025 — The global flying disc community reconnects through the digital realm with the launch of the 2025 Virtual Sport World Team Disc Golf Championship (VSWTDGC), organized by the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF). Now in its second edition, the championship began on May 5 and runs through June 22, bringing together players from around the world to compete for national glory in a unique virtual setting.

Following the successful debut in 2022 — which attracted over 3,250 players from 37 countries — the 2025 VSWTDGC takes place once again on the digital platform Disc Golf Valley (DGV), developed by Spinoff Games, one of the most popular disc golf simulators globally, with over 2 million downloads.

Three Rounds, One Champion

The tournament is divided into three progressive stages designed to promote inclusivity, fairness, and spirited international competition:

  • Round 1 – National Qualification Round (May 5–31):
Open to all players. Any country with at least one male and one female participant will qualify a national team formed by their top-scoring male and female players.
(The deadline was extended from May 11 to May 31 to encourage broader global participation.)
  • Round 2 – National Championships Qualifier (June 9–14):
Mixed pairs from each qualified country compete. Their individual scores are combined to determine the top 8 countries advancing to the finals.
  • Finals (June 21–22):
Finalist nations play two rounds. The country with the lowest combined team score will be crowned the 2025 VSWTDGC Champion.

All participants play with the same “balanced bag” of virtual discs (Rive, Musket, Escape, Warship, Fuse, and Pure) and compete on the same virtual courses in each round.

Innovation Meets Global Competition

“This event shows how virtual sport can create international connection and showcase our sport in new and fun ways,” said WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “It also helps us engage youth and new audiences, aligning with the Olympic Agenda 2020+5 objective of promoting virtual sports and reaching gaming communities.”

The championship is powered by the strong collaboration with Spinoff Games. CEO Daniel Wallström shared: “We’re thrilled to team up with WFDF for the 2025 VSWTDGC. This championship is a great example of how digital platforms can unite players across borders and grow the global disc golf community in innovative and inclusive ways.”

How to Participate

Anyone interested in participating can still join the competition. Simply download Disc Golf Valley, a free-to-play game available via the Spinoff Games website, the App Store, Google Play, or Steam for PC.

Comprehensive details — including registration procedures, competition formats, and equipment rules — are available in the official event bulletin. All participants and national federations are encouraged to consult it to ensure full compliance and readiness.

With a growing community and a format that merges technology, accessibility, and international spirit, the 2025 Virtual Sport World Team Disc Golf Championship is poised to become one of the most exciting and forward-looking events in digital sports today.
